Trending Now: White Jumpsuits on the Red Carpet

This week Elle Women in Hollywood 2013 and Fashion Group International 2013 both held events and many celebrites were in attendance.  As usually the stars looked flawless, but I (Leather) could not help but to notice the white jumpsuits seen on the red carpets.  Megan Good, Naya Rivera, and Joan Smalls opt for deep plunging V neckline versions, while Scandal's very own Darby Stanchfield decided to rock a cutout version. What are your thoughts on this trend?  Who has your vote for the best white jumpsuit red carpet look?

Twenty Something Us

This blog is supposed to be about us, supposed to illustrate our interests, and our passion and in some ways it does. Leather, the edgy fashionista illustrates herself by her posts about fashion and Lace attempts to show her heart with talks of causes. But what is really missing is tone. You can look at all the pretty pictures and know which organization is doing what or which designer released what, but if you really want to know who Leather and Lace are here goes….

We are Dreamers, utterly consumed with our passion and desire to never work again. When I say never work again I don’t mean non-stop vacations, though that would be nice. I mean loving what you do so much that it’s not work, it’s purely you being yourself in every moment of everyday and being free to express whatever liberates you. Whether you are trying to find a cure for cancer and know that each trial will bring you one step closer to saving millions of lives or walking dogs because you’re an avid animal lover you’re experiencing pure joy. And the idea of having that kind of joy in your life daily is what fuels us.

In addition to the posts that you know and love, we plan to incorporate more of what is going on behind the passion, the ups and downs that many of us face being twenty-something. We want to give you a deeper look into the souls of dreamers…….

NYFW SS14: The trend classic black & white

As NYFW finished up, there were many trends seen on the runways.  The major trend on just about every runway from Ralph Lauren menswear inspired black and white looks to Giulietta color-blocking and graphic designs was the classic black and white color trend.  Whether shown on the runway as a crop top, striped skirt, suit, coat, color-blocking print, or head scarf one things for sure designers can't get enough of the classic black and white combo.  Black and white is definitely a trend that has carried over from season to season and still strong as ever. Sandy Hook Fundraiser

We were all grief stricken on December 12, 2012, when we heard of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary that claimed the lives of 20 children and 6 adults.  It is never easy to deal with tragedy, and even thinking about the incident now 4 months later it still brings a twinge of pain to the hearts of us all. Despite the pain that we all feel people are able to come together and be strong enough to help those affected.  Misfortune brings forth a sense of community and in efforts to alleviate the pain and suffering that accompanies a tragedy of the magnitude emerges pray, charity, honor and awareness.

In efforts to honor the 26 lives lost, emerged Sandy Hook Promise (http://www.sandyhookpromise.org/). Sandy Hook Promise is an organization that is dedicated to remembering those individuals that lost their lives on December 12th, to support our families, our neighbors, our teachers, our community with dedication and love as well as the material and financial needs they will require in the days ahead, and to encourage conversations to emerge to ideas and ways to combat the reoccurrence of this tragedy.

Catholic Charities of Fairfield County is another organization that has stepped up to help those affected. Catholic Charities of Fairfield County has positioned staff to Newtown to reach out to the families who are trying to cope with the loss of a child or family member. Counselors are working with teachers to provide them with guidance to help their students to restore comfort and the feeling of being safe while in school as well as to deal with the impact of the loss of their classmates and teachers. If you would like to help Catholic Charities of Fairfield County continue to provide Trauma Response Services please visit: http://ccfairfield.org/index.php

Iced Tea Dance

The Iced Tea Dance benefiting the Abzyme Reaserach Foundation raised over $20,000 on Saturday January 26, 2013 which marked the completion of the $50,000 campaign to raise the funding required to launch this vaccine into human trial and complete the initial step of FDA filing.

The Après Ski themed event garnered the warm and cozy feel of a lodge in Aspen, and did not skim on the aesthetics. Upon entry to the function, its guests were greeted by friendly faces wearing puffy vests and fur hats, a warm fireplace, and handed snow cones that enticed your taste-buds. The ceilings adorned with pinecones led the way through the arctic chill to comfy benches adorned with plush blankets and luxurious winter white fur throws.

This event not only embraced the charitable spirit it embraced the celebration of the progress that the foundation has made, truly living up to its mission statement “dedicated to eradicating HIV/AIDS in our lifetime. We believe that further advancement of abzyme technology could produce the world’s first effective therapeutic HIV vaccine, potentially providing accessible treatment for over 33 million HIV-positive people worldwide.”

Carried Away With Fashion

Whenever you add Fashion + Location, the minds of the masses focus on London, Milan, New York, and Paris. Being a Native New Yorker of course, I think of my fabulous hometown, the tents in Bryant Park, and the floods of fashion lovers pouring through Lincoln Center, strolling down 5th Avenue, or popping in a Vintage Shop in Soho. The culmination of New York City and Fashion gave birth to what is in my opinion one of the best shows ever to air on television Sex and the City.

Sex and the City chronicled the lives of four friends (Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda) through being single and in-relationships, and through ups and downs with the voice of a writer (in Manolo Blahnik’s) and exceptional clothing. On January 14, 2013, the love story between Carrie Bradshaw and Manhattan continues, with the CW’s prequel The Carrie Diaries.

The Carrie Diaries starring newcomer Anna Sophia Robb, will take audiences on a journey with a 16- year old girl in 1984 Connecticut mourning the loss of her mother to New York City where she evolves into the Carrie Bradshaw that we know and love. Carrie travels to New York for an internship at Century 21, looking around she says, “In my years of playing dress up as a child I understood that what you wore could help define you, but in this store I understood that you might even be able to change who you are. Maybe you could walk in here one person, a kid from Connecticut and walk out…” stopping mid-sentence, Carrie meets Larissa, Style Editor of Interview Magazine and is instantly submersed into the world of high fashion.  Mark her words, because Costume Designer Eric Daman is up for the challenge of filling the very stylish stilettos. Daman plans to provide viewers with the inspiration for some of the things that we have seen in adult Carrie, for example

Hope you are all ready to get Carried Away with fashion, as the story unfolds. My advice grab your closest girlfriends watch the show and be inspired, then ask yourself how you can bring the 80’s into 2013.
